Scale-Ups – How can coworking accommodate and keep them (Techspace)

The 2019 slide deck presented Techspace’s approach to accommodating scale-up companies in flexible workspaces. Stephanie Brisson, identified as Techspace’s general manager, described the company as a platform for technology teams, with offices in London and Berlin covering a combined 12,000 square metres. At the time, Techspace reported 1,800 seats across 40 member companies. The presentation focused on physical space, communication and operations, drawing on the operator’s experience rather than offering statistical models or a ready-made business plan. Its workspace guidance covered total floor area, office size and number, the ratio of amenities to office space, and the placement of amenities. It also listed facilities that operators had to consider as either shared or company-specific, including reception areas, kitchens, meeting rooms, phone booths, event spaces, showers and storage. Techspace grouped its products by company size and degree of self-containment, ranging from fixed desks with shared amenities to enterprise floors or units with dedicated meeting rooms, kitchens and break-out areas. The deck also indicated that communication before arrival and during a company’s stay, community, facilities and expectation management formed part of the wider operating approach.
