The Amazon group strikes a double mega-deal with WeWork, respectively in NYC and in the Silicon Valley.

WeWork secured 20,000 m² in a Class A building in Mountain View “on behalf” of Amazon, which has been a long-time WeWork enterprise member. The deal is structured as a licensing accord with the sublandlord, a WeWork spokesperson told the online real estate media outlet CoStar News, meaning that WeWork will make part of the premises exclusively available to Amazon employees. The WeWork location will feature flexible and amenity-rich workspaces.

While the agreement isn’t a lease, by the amount of space taken it would rank as one of the 10 largest office deals in California in 2024.

A few weeks ago, Amazon and WeWork stroke a similar deal in Manhattan, for a 28,242 m2 facility operated by WeWork.

“The lease comes at a pivotal moment when several major companies, including Amazon, are tightening their return-to-office policies. Amazon announced that employees will be expected back in the office five days a week starting in January 2025, which coincided with the broader trend among large firms requiring more in-person work”, reminds an Allwork.Space | FUTURE OF WORK® article.

WeWork, now led by John C. Santora, has seen growing demand from large clients and its enterprise members, which involve companies with at least 500 employees.

No information is available indicating that similar deals between Amazon and WeWork will take place in Europe.
