Veteran Coworking Salzburg Reboots With Club-Focused Model Instead of Desk Rentals

Salzburg’s first coworking space, Coworking Salzburg, is relaunching after nearly closing earlier this year. Rising costs, changing work habits, and administrative challenges almost forced its shutdown. Founder Romy Sigl has decided to pivot with a new model: the Coworking Club.
The new approach reduces membership fees from €320 to €100 per month, removes long-term commitments, and emphasizes 24/7 flexible use based on a “fair use principle”. The focus shifts away from desk rentals toward community, networking, and mutual support for freelancers, founders, creatives, and remote workers. The goal is to keep coworking accessible during a period when many professionals are struggling with rising expenses, says a press release.
Fixed desks are still available for 340€/ month, though.
Coworking Salzburg is now testing whether this community-centered approach, coupled with significantly lower prices, is economically viable.
The reboot will include “technological upgrades” supported by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), making the space suitable for hybrid events, workshops, and company meetings, explains the coworking operator.
Coworking Salzburg remains located within the Techno-Z industry park area, where it has operated since 2012, with continued support from the Real Estate company Techno-Z Verbund GmbH.
Founded over a decade ago in the Austrian city (156.000 inhabitants), Coworking Salzburg, although operating a small surface (450m2), has been a pioneer of coworking in Austria, and Europe, serving entrepreneurs, digital nomads, and innovation teams.
“The relaunch positions it as an example of how coworking spaces are adapting to hybrid work models and economic pressures, providing freedom without isolation”, says Romy Sigl.
