Hotel and Coworking Operator Ruby Group Expands Workspace Network to Nine Locations With Marseille Opening

Munich-based hotel & coworking operator Ruby Group will open a new flexible workspace in Marseille this summer, expanding its European workspace network to nine locations. The new Ruby Yani Workspaces will occupy more than 1,000 sqm across three floors of a mixed-use building, with the 237-room Ruby Lilou Hotel located above.
The Marseille development marks Ruby’s first entry into the French market. Ruby Lilou Hotel opened earlier, while Ruby Yani Workspaces is scheduled to launch this summer. The new workspace will offer coworking memberships, dedicated desks, private offices, meeting rooms and virtual office services.
Members will also have access to the wider Ruby Workspaces network across Europe. Ruby launched its workspace business in 2017, their network currently spans Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Italy and Malta.
Ruby does not follow a fixed rollout model. Depending on the characteristics of a building and local market demand, the group may open hotels and workspaces simultaneously, introduce workspace components at a later stage or develop hotel-only projects. Marseille represents one of the integrated developments, combining both concepts under one roof. This flexible approach allows the group to adapt its offer to local needs and the characteristics of each asset.
Founded in 2013 by chief executive officer Michael Struck, Ruby Group has built its business around its “Lean Luxury” concept, combining design-focused hospitality with adaptive reuse and streamlined operations. The company currently operates 22 hotels and 8 workspaces across Europe, with another 21 properties under development or in the pipeline. Its hotel footprint spans Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, the UK and France, with expansion continuing into Sweden.
The group has also announced plans to accelerate growth in the US and Asia through a strategic partnership with IHG Hotels & Resorts (InterContinental Hotels Group PLC, a global hospitality company). IHG acquired the Ruby hotel brand with the aim of expanding it through a third-party franchise model. Ruby Group’s shareholders remain unchanged and the company continues to operate independently. The two companies have not disclosed whether the cooperation agreement also covers the Ruby Workspaces business.
