IWG Expands European Footprint with Acquisition of France’s Coworking Major Player Wojo From Accor Group

International Workplace Group (IWG), the world’s largest provider of flexible workspaces, has completed the acquisition of French flex office operator Wojo, strengthening not only its leadership in France but also expanding its reach across Europe through one of the continent’s most established hospitality-driven workspace brands. The transaction, approved by the French Competition Authority, sees IWG acquire Wojo from its joint shareholders, Bouygues Immobilier and the France based Hotel Global Giant Accor Group.
Launched in 2015 by Bouygues Immobilier under the Nextdoor brand, the company was transformed in 2019 into Wojo after Accor acquired a 50% stake. The ambition was to combine premium flexible offices with hospitality services while creating a European network embedded in hotels and commercial real estate.
Today, Wojo operates 17 flagship coworking and flexible office centres covering nearly 100,000 square metres across France, accommodating more than 900 companies. Its portfolio includes major locations in Paris, La Défense, Issy-les-Moulineaux, Lyon, Lille, Bordeaux and Brest, with individual centres ranging from boutique city-centre workspaces to large multi-floor campuses such as Wojo BnF in Paris and Wojo Montparnasse Ateliers Gaîté, one of the country’s largest flexible workspace facilities. Beyond its operated centres, Wojo members also benefit from access to approximately 300 partner workspaces, largely within Accor hotels, spread across more than 70 French cities, as well as a European hospitality network extending to destinations including Barcelona.
For IWG, the acquisition substantially reinforces an already dominant French position. Prior to the deal, the group operated around 140 centres in France under brands including Regus, Spaces, HQ, Signature, Stop & Work and Factories. Combining those locations with Wojo’s 17 directly operated hubs will give the enlarged group approximately 157 operated flexible workspace centres across France, further widening the gap with domestic competitors while adding around 100,000 m² of premium workspace to its portfolio.
The acquisition also has implications well beyond France. IWG already operates more than 4,000 locations across over 120 countries, while Wojo has developed an extensive hospitality-based access network of more than 400 workspaces across Europe through partnerships, particularly with Accor hotels. Integrating Wojo into IWG’s worldwide platform creates opportunities to connect French corporate customers with IWG’s international network while offering multinational clients easier access to Wojo’s premium city-centre locations and hospitality-led environments.
The strategic fit extends beyond geographic coverage. Wojo has built expertise in designing and operating large premium workplaces integrated into mixed-use developments and hotels, while IWG brings global enterprise sales capabilities, procurement scale, workplace technology and one of the industry’s largest multinational customer bases. The combined network could allow occupiers to standardise flexible workspace contracts across multiple countries, while landlords may benefit from IWG’s international sales engine and Wojo’s experience in hospitality-oriented workplace management.
The deal also continues IWG’s increasingly acquisitive strategy across Europe. Earlier this year, the company acquired Design Offices, Germany’s largest premium flexible workspace operator, significantly expanding its presence in Europe’s biggest office market. Together, the acquisitions demonstrate IWG’s strategy of complementing organic growth with the purchase of established national champions that possess strong local brands, prime locations and corporate client relationships.
Commenting on the company’s growth ambitions, IWG Chief Executive Officer Christian Schmitz said:
“The growth opportunity ahead of us is enormous: demand for flexible workspace is accelerating in every market, and IWG is exceptionally well positioned to capture it.”
The statement was made following his appointment as CEO and reflects the group’s strategy of accelerating expansion through both franchise growth and targeted acquisitions.
For Bouygues Immobilier and Accor, the transaction marks the end of an 11-year effort to build one of France’s most recognised flexible workspace brands, combining commercial real estate expertise with hospitality services to create a differentiated workplace experience.
The acquisition also has significance for the wider coworking community. Wojo will serve as the local co-organising partner of the Coworking Europe 2026 Conference, which will take place in Paris this November, welcoming operators, landlords, brokers, investors and workplace professionals from across Europe to discuss the future of flexible workspaces.
