Intercontinental Takes Over the Ruby Hotel and Coworking Chain for €110 Mio

The global hotel services provider InterContinental Group (IHG) has acquired Ruby Hotels & Workspace for €110.5 million.
The Germany based hotel and coworking Ruby brand operates locations in 20 major European cities. Ruby’s portfolio spans Germany, the UK, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy, with upcoming openings in Edinburgh, Marseille, Rome, and Stockholm.
Founded in 2013, Ruby Hotels has built a reputation in ‘Lean Luxury’ concept, blending high-end design with cost-effective layouts tailored for modern travelers. Beyond hospitality, Ruby Hotels and Workspaces integrate coworking environments into their properties. Their workspaces, located in historic city centers, offer high-speed connectivity, community-driven events, and seamless transitions between work and leisure—an approach that has gained traction among independent workers and corporate clients alike, writes the company.
IHG sees Ruby as a key player in the ‘urban micro’ hotel sector, known for its efficient use of space and ability to convert commercial properties, including offices, into hospitality-driven assets. By leveraging its global distribution network and loyalty program, IHG aims to scale Ruby’s model internationally, bringing its mix of stylish hotels and workspaces to a broader audience. IHG targets over 120 hotels within the next decade and expanding into the U.S. market by the end of the year, says a IHG press release.
