Portugal’s Sitio expands into regional market with its 14th coworking opening

Portuguese operator Sitio is preparing to open its 14th location in May in Évora, a small regional city in southern Portugal with around 50,000 residents. The site marks the operator’s entry into the Alentejo region, one of the country’s largest but less densely populated areas, traditionally less active in flexible office development.

The new location will offer around 1,161 sqm of coworking, private offices, meeting rooms and event space, targeting freelancers, startups and companies. The opening reflects a broader shift among operators towards secondary cities, as demand for flexible workspace grows outside Lisbon and Porto.

Miguel Ricardo, General Manager of Sitio, said: “We are seeing more and more talent, projects, and companies emerging outside the major urban centers, and it makes perfect sense for us to be present to support this development.”

The Évora launch follows continued expansion in Lisbon, where the company recently opened a 1,700 sqm location. This reflects a dual strategy of consolidating presence in core markets while expanding into regional cities.

According to an interview with Miguel Ricardo, Sitio’s strategy focuses on building sector-based ecosystems within its locations. “Specialization by area is an important part of our strategy because it allows us to create communities with focus, density of knowledge, and a greater capacity to generate relevant solutions,” he said. The operator develops dedicated hubs that bring together companies from the same sector, enabling knowledge sharing and accelerating innovation.

Sitio has launched hubs focused on Artificial Intelligence, Health, Urban Tech, Web3 and Gaming. In its AI-focused spaces, projects have emerged around the practical application of artificial intelligence across different industries.

Founded in 2014, Sitio operates a national network across Lisbon, Porto, Aveiro, Guimarães and Vila Nova de Gaia. The company partners with organisations such as Portugal Fintech, Unicorn Factory and MITH – Minho Innovation & Technology Hub, supporting sector-driven communities in technology and innovation.
